Hu assumes control of Taiwan group

President Hu Jintao has assumed executive control over Beijing's relations with Taiwan from former
president Jiang Zemin, reported the Financial Times. According to sources quoted by the
newspaper, Hu now heads the Communist Party's leading group on Taiwan affairs. The
second-ranked member of the group is Jia Qinglin, a former governor of Fujian
province.
Hu was also reported to have succeeded Jiang as chairman of the Party's
leading groups on finance and economics.
