Hu calls for peaceful cooperation

China needs the world to drive its development while the world needs China to sustain its growth as "China cannot develop in isolation and the world needs China to achieve global prosperity," Chinese President Hu Jintao said at yesterday's reception of the annual Asian-African Business Summit in Indonesia. To calm regional fears after a series of anti-Japanese protests throughout China's cities, Hu pledged peaceful development, adding that China aims to quadruple is 2000 GDP to US$4trn by 2020, with a per capita GDP of US$3,000, according to transcripts of his speech.
