Hu to attend nuclear summit

Hu Jintao, China’s president, will attend a Washington summit on nuclear security in April, the Financial Times reported. Althought the US-China relationship has come under considerable pressure recently, stressed by issues including the US$6.4 billion arms sale to Taiwan and Google’s decision to end its censorship of searches on the Chinese mainland. However, Beijing’s decision to attend the April 12 summit, which will discuss nuclear terrorism and possible responses, might discourage the US from amplifying its calls for China to revalue its currency when the US Treasury Department releases its semi-annual currency report on April 15. "China understands that it’s in their best interest that there isn’t a nuclear arms race in the Middle East," said Bill Burton, a White House spokesman.
