In a speech on Monday, President Hu Jintao urged trade unions worldwide to work together to support sustainable development, state media reported. Hu gave his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2008 International Forum on Economic Globalization and Trade Unions in Beijing. All-China Federation of Trade Unions chairman Wang Zhaoguo echoed Hu’s comments, and called on developed countries to bear more responsibility for environmental issues. At the recent UN climate talks in Bali, China and India were among developing countries requesting financial and technical support from richer nations to help combat climate change.
