Hu vows to "purify" the internet

President Hu Jintao vowed to "purify" the internet at a top-level meeting that discussed ways to control China's online population, Reuters reported. Heading a meeting of the Communist Party's Politburo, Hu called for the party to "strengthen administration and development of our country's internet culture", raise the level of "guidance" online, and "promote the civilized running and use of the internet and purify the internet environment". He did not overtly refer to censorship. China has 137 million registered internet users.
