Huaneng Group, one of China's largest independent power producers, signed an agreement to help develop China's first locally-made high temperature, gas-cooled nuclear power plant. The deal brings together Huaneng, China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Corp., and Tsinghua University to develop and build the 200,000-kilowatt reactor. The plant is expected to go into formal operation by the end of 2010. No financial details about the project were given.
