Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing, on property price controls in Chongqing

Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing Municipality, on government property price controls in Chongqing
"Governments should use their own money to demolish those dangerous old buildings. To profit from property markets shouldn’t be the only consideration of governments. They should also take the social environment into account. Currently in Hong Kong, the residential property price is as high as over ten thousand Hong Kong dollars per square meter, which drives many property-owned people and intellectuals to purchase houses in Shenzhen or Shanghai. It is such a big loss for a city to lose its middle-class people."
