An Iranian company connected to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei offered to sell US$1.7 million of embargoed Hewlett-Packard computer equipment to Iran’s largest mobile operator, Reuters reported, citing confidential Huawei documents. The documents showed that Huawei’s partner in Iran, Skycom Tech, proposed the sale to Mobile Telecommunication Co of Iran. The US has banned the sale of computer equipment to Iran to limit the country’s capacity to develop nuclear weapons. Huawei, which has a partnership with HP, denied furnishing its Iranian partner with the equipment. The US House Intelligence Committee recently criticized the Chinese telecom equipment maker, the world’s second largest, for failing to prove that it complied with all US sanctions and export laws.
