Huawei’s Europe market share takes a nosedive

In the three months ending in June, Huawei’s smartphone shipments in Europe plunged 16%, dragging the company’s market share in the region down to 18.8%, 3.6% lower than for the same period last year, according to market analysis firm Canalys, said Caixin.

Canalys attributed the result to the Trump administration’s ‘Entity List’, which restricts Huawei from acquiring technologies from US companies. After Google said in May that it would abide by the government’s decision, Huawei users began to worry about access to Google’s services, Canalys said.

As a result, rival Samsung shipped the most phones during the second quarter in Europe, achieving its best performance in five years, said Canalys.
