Hubei halts use of company's escalators after mother killed by machinery

Hubei’s provincial government has ordered the suspension of all escalators made by Suzhou Shenlong Elevator Company following the death of a mother who fell through a broken footplate into the running machinery of one of the firm’s escalators, South China Morning Post reported. The escalator had passed a safety check in March, according to Chen Guanxin, head of the Jingzhou Work Safety Administration who is charge of the investigation into the accident. Suzhou Shenlong sells escalators and elevators across the mainland and to overseas markets including Russia, Malaysia and Australia, according to its website.
