Hubei province's plan for the tourism development of the Three Gorges area has been approved by a group of experts in tourism and city planning organized by the central government, Economic Observer reported (in Chinese). A total of US$3.6 billion of fund will be poured into the Three Gorges Dam area in western Hubei, including US$1.4 billion in upgrading traffic networks, improving tourist facilities and infrastructure, preserving historic sites and developing cultural attractions. The plan includes eight national top-class tourist destinations such as cultural tours based on two famous historic figures, Qu Yuan and Wang Zhaojun, whose hometowns are in Hubei province.
