There have been concerns Taiwan students may see fewer opportunities to get into good universities if students from the mainland are allowed into Taiwan higher education institutions.
To address these concerns Vice Education Minister Lu Mu-lin said students from the mainland would not be vying directly with their local counterparts for enrollments in Taiwan’s universities, as they would have separate quotas.
It would be impossible to ask students from the mainland to take all the aptitude tests and entrance exams that Taiwan students currently are required to sit for.
The Education Ministry will seek to revise the law to allow students from the mainland to to study in Taiwan but Lu Mu-lin said the ministry is still working on details concerning quotas and enrollment procedures.
