Niu Qingbao, the consul general of China in Mumbai, believes that
"Our bilateral trade for the first nine months of this year was US$45.4 billion, US$2.2 billion more than the whole volume of last year. This year’s trade is expected to reach US$60 billion," Niu said, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 8th Chinese Products Expo in Mumbai.
Noting that India is China’s largest trading partner in South Asia, the Chinese envoy pointed out that in 2005, the Indian and Chinese prime ministers had set a target to achieve US$20 billion trade by 2008. The target was achieved as early as 2006.
Sify quoted Niu as saying, "For 2010 our target is US$40 billion. We have already crossed it."
