Border tensions between India and China cooled somewhat on Sunday when both countries withdrew troops from camps in a disputed territorial zone, Reuters reported. The withdrawal comes days before India’s foreign minister is scheduled to land in Beijing for high-level talks. Indian officials claim Chinese troops intruded on April 15 into its territory near the Himalayas, a nebulously defined border area called the Line of Actual Control. It is unclear how far Chinese troops have retreated, but Indian officials that spoke to Reuters say the troops have moved one kilometer back from their previous position – still 19 kilometers within the area India considers its territory.
