China's industrial output rose in September by 13.8% from a year earlier. This followed a year-on-year rise of 12.7% in August and an 8.9 per cent gain for all of 2001. The National Bureau of Statistics attributed the rise to higher production of electronic goods, transport equipment and petrochemical products. The bureau also said that output by state-owned enterprises was 14% higher in September than in the same month of 2001.
