Israel wants Beijing to back Iran sanctions

Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said ahead of her visit to China this week that she would push Beijing to back "dramatic" sanctions against Iran in order to stop the country's nuclear developments, AFP reported. "Any hesitation on the international community's part would be interpreted as a sign of weakness, by Iran and by its neighbors," Livni was quoted as saying by the Ynet news service. During her two-day visit to China, Livni is scheduled to meet both Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. In September, the US, UK, China, France, Germany and Russia agreed to postpone discussion of new sanctions until the International Atomic Energy Agency and Javier Solana, head of foreign policy at the EU, reported on their talks with Iran.
