Shares in Chinese company JA
Solar Holdings, a manufacturer of solar cells, rose 30% on their NASDAQ debut Wednesday, Reuters reported. The shares, held in American Depository Receipts, opened up 27% at US$19.05 and hit US$19.50, a 30% rise, before slipping to US$17.80 at the close. JA Solar, which raised US$225 million in its initial public offering, is the latest in a string of Chinese solar companies to be well received by the US markets. In what is seen as an indication of the strong prospects of alternative energy, Trina Solar and Solarfun Power Holdings have both
capitalized on strong debuts in the past year, rising as much as 45% on the New
York Stock Exchange.
