Jaguar Land Rover in China JV discussions

Jaguar Land Rover, a unit of India’s Tata Motors (TTM.NYSE), said it is in negotiations with a Chinese auto maker to create a joint venture to boost its presence in the China market, the Wall Street Journal reported. Tata CEO Carl-Peter Forster told an industry conference on Saturday that Jaguar Land Rover wants a partner in China "as soon as possible," but would not name the company his firm is currently in discussions with. Tata hopes the Jaguar and Land Rover brands would sell well in China, where their current presence is weak. Analysts believe the first phase of the JV would likely focus on the joint manufacturing of Land Rover sport-utility vehicles, then move on to the Jaguar brand.
