Projector manufacturers from Japan are shifting production to China, reported Nikkei. Seiko Epson, Japan's largest projector manufacturer, plans to begin production of a recently launched model to be priced at just over US$1,000. Earlier models, including those designed for home theatres, will follow with the aim of reducing production costs by about 40 per cent.
NEC View technology plans a China plant in October that will manufacture and centralise the supply of parts. The wholly owned subsidiary of NEC expects to cut production costs by 20 per cent. Meanwhile, Plus Vision Corporation is expanding its China production this autumn by releasing a new line priced about US$1,250, much cheaper than existing models.
