Jilin hospital blaze kills 33

A fire in a hospital in the northwestern province of Jilin killed at least 33 people December 15, reported state media. The hospital, one of the biggest in Liaoyuan city, 120 kilometers southwest the provincial capital Changchun, caught fire at 5pm, and spread to the out buildings in the complex. Eyewitnesses said people jumped from the windows of the burning buildings. China's Ministry of Public Security said there were 222,000 accidental fires in the first 11 months of 2005, resulting in over 2,000 deaths.
