China's China National Petroleum Corporation and Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGaz will launch the second phase of construction on the 1,300 kilometer Atasu-Alashankou-Dushanzi oil pipeline, Interfax reported. The second phase of the pipeline is projected to cost US$850 million. Once completed, the pipeline will be able to pump up to 10 million tons of oil to China annually, with capacity to double afterward.Chinese-Kazakh joint venture Aktobe-MunGaz, located in western Kazakhstan will be able to use the pipeline. An oil refinery is being reconstructed at the pipeline's destination point in Dushanzi in preparation for completion.
