North Korean leader Kim Jong-il returned to Pyongyang by train on Tuesday after meetings with leaders in Beijing brought his China trip to a close, according to reports by South Korean media. The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed that Hu Jintao was due to meet at least one foreign leader but refused to give further details. A variety of reports over the last few days claimed Kim was visiting high-tech and manufacturing bases in Guangdong. Chinese officials are expected to have spoken to Kim about the resumption of the six-party talks on the dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
