KMT chief arrives for mainland tour

Taiwan’s Nationalist Party (KMT) chairman, Wu Poh-hsiung, arrived in Nanjing on Monday for the start of the highest-level contact between Taiwan and the mainland in 60 years, AFP reported. As head of a 16-member KMT delegation, Wu is scheduled to meet with President Hu Jintao in Beijing on Wednesday. A key issue for discussion is expected to be the establishment of stronger trade and tourism links between the island and the mainland. The visit is widely seen as a sign of improved relations between Taipei and Beijing after election of the KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou as president in March. Ma was sworn in on May 20.
