Koizumi calls for talks

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi believes China's decision not to hold a high-level summit because of his visits to the Yasukuni shrine, where executed war criminals are honored, is "incomprehensible". "I think China will someday regret that it did something as incomprehensible as not holding a summit because of one problem," he said. Koizumi has visited the Tokyo shrine each year since taking office in 2001, and may well make a last trip as prime minister before his term ends in September, though he has so far refused to reveal whether he will or not.
