Japan's Konica Minolta Holding Co (KMHC) is planning to transfer all digital
camera manufacturing operations to China.
It aims to increase its sales
of digital cameras in the Chinese market from its current 5 percent share to 15 percent by
2005.
Konica and Minolta completed a merger early this month and
KMHC now has 11 subsidiaries in China with more than 10,000 employees and sales of
RMB 11.36 billion last year.
KMHC is also building its second factory in
Dalian, Liaoning province, to produce lenses for mobile phones which will be sold to
Japan.
The new factory will have an investment of more than RMB 200
million and will be able to produce about three million lenses a year when it starts up this
month.
