Construction has begun on the world's largest production base for wind power generators using magnetic levitation technology in central China's Hunan province, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). Guangzhou Zhongke Hengyuan Energy Technology, which holds patents on full permanent magnet suspension wind power generator technology, has invested US$54 million in the facility. The wind turbines have a minimum of mechanical friction due to the maglev, and can begin turning at wind speeds as low as 1.5 meters per second. The base will produce a series of generators with capacities ranging from 400 to 5,000 watts, and is expected to generate US$213 million in sales revenue annually.
