The Ministry of Justice circulated a notice listing the Hong Kong law offices approved to practice in China. The notice shows that 35 representative offices of Hong Kong law firms have obtained a license to practice in eight Chinese cities. Beijing and Shanghai each have 10 offices, Guangzhou has nine and Shenzhen two. Tianjin, Fuzhou, Chengdu and Xi'an each have one. Four Hong Kong firms hold two offices each.
At the same time the Ministry of Justice issued another notice listing the foreign law offices with a license in China. The number of representative offices has reached 115, allowed to practice in six cities. The majority of the law firms are from the US and UK.
Shanghai accounts for over half of the foreign law offices (60) while Beijing has 50. Guangzhou has two offices. Chengdu, Qingdao and Dalian each have one office. A total of 18 foreign firms hold two offices each.
