PC maker Lenovo has recruited its fifth executive in eight months from rival Dell as Christopher Askew was named head of a new customer services unit, the South China Morning Post reported. Askew, who resigned as co-president of Dell Asia last December, will serve as senior vice-president for Lenovo Services, reporting directly to chief executive William Amelio. Lenovo, the world's third-largest PC manufacturer, is strengthening its management team as part of a bid to boost sales outside of China following its purchase of IBM's PC unit last year. Asia is Dell's fastest-growing region by sales but it is unclear what impact the loss of five Asia executives will have on business. Lenovo's Asia president David Miller, Japan president Sataro Amano, business development head David Schmoock and Amelio himself have all moved over from Dell.
