Lenovo may buy Palm

Lenovo, the world’s fourth-largest PC brand, has emerged as the leading suitor for Palm, the struggling smartphone company – which almost invented hand held information –- desperately in need of a savior.

Many analysts say that, after struggling to generate interest for its Pre and Pixi smartphones amid a debut at Verizon and mediocre success at Sprint, Palm’s list of potential bidders is quickly dwindling.

Lenovo, with over $2.4 billion in cash reserves, may be the last chance. Palm still has a well-known brand and a loyal, albeit shrinking, customer base. Lenovo would fit very well.

Mobildia states PC rivals Dell and Acer have started to design smartphones, as the wireless industry begins to converge with computers. Perhaps Lenovo needs Palm almost as much as Palm needs Lenovo.
