Lenovo (LNVGY.OTC, 0992.HK) recorded a 44% year-on-year increase in its fiscal second-quarter profits, Dow Jones reported. The computer maker said growth in PC shipments helped to push revenues up 41% to US$5.76 billion. Net profit in the three months to September came in at US$76.59 million, up from US$53.08 million in the same period of 2009. Lenovo expects falling costs of components to improve its gross margins in the short term. Internet firm Tencent also posted robust profit growth; the company’s third-quarter profit rose 51% to US$324 million due to the strong performance of its online games business. Tencent is a leader in China’s US$1.27 billion online games sector, with a 27% share of the market.
