Korean electronics group LG opened a second microwave oven factory in Tianjin in May, Shanghai Daily said. Total investment in the 10m-units-a-year capacity plant is US$230m. LG claims to hold 34 per cent of China’s microwave oven market.
LG also plans to invest an additional US$300m in the period up to 2005 to build air conditioner and motor production facilities in Tianjin, making the city a major production base for the group.
