LG to build new petrochemicals facility

South Korea-based LG Chemicals announced that it will build a mainland petrochemicals factory in 2005. The new facility, which is scheduled to begin construction in early 2005, will produce ethylene dichloride, a raw material for polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

LG Chemicals operates three petrochemicals plants in China, including one that produces PVC. The company said it is also considering constructing a new PVC facility in China to increase its mainland production of the material to 1.1 million tonnes per year.
