Chinese Premier Li Keqiang promised members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) additional support in the form of US$20 billion in loans as the countries met in Myanmar following the recent APEC summit in Beijing, South China Morning Post reported. Other financial support on offer from China included RMB3 billion (US$489 million) to fight poverty, as well as other initiatives to boost infrastructure and economic development. The 21 APEC economies also agreed to move toward a new free-trade zone that is backed by Beijing and rivaling the US-led Trans-Pacific Partnership, which excludes China.
