Like “shutting the door into China”, says foreign minister on protectionism

Protectionism will put a halt to China’s opening-up to the world, foreign minister Wang Yi said during a forum in Hanoi over the weekend, stressing that China’s aim is to share its development with the world.

The comments are a clear reference to the perennially looming trade war between China and the United States, talk of which continues to be volatile and unpredictable.

Wang went on to say, however, that China’s march towards an open and reformed world economy will not be affected by any external factors. He said, with regards to protectionism against his country, that this will be like “shutting the door into China, and they [countries imposing such measures] will suffer the consequences of their actions,” reported Reuters.
