Limits set on foreign bank borrowings

To stem capital inflows fanned by speculation on the yuan's revaluation, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange said it would cap short-term overseas borrowings by foreign banks at US$34.8bn this year, with the quota allocated to each bank, state media reported. China's short-term foreign debt rose 35.5% last year to US$104.3bn.
