Macau gaming sector suffers first annual decline

Macau’s gambling revenue fell 2.6% in 2015, The Financial Times reported, citing official data. The annual decline was the first on record for the industry, the fortunes of which have risen in lockstep with the territory’s ascent as the world’s top destination for gambling after it became the only place in China where casinos are legal, with annual revenues eventually totaling roughly seven times those of Las Vegas. Last year saw the sudden end of this hot streak thanks largely to an anti-graft campaign on the mainland that has rocked the global luxury industry.
