US-based department store operator Macy’s said on Sunday that it is putting its online expansions plans for China on the back burner, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing company spokesman Jim Sluzewski. Macy’s wants to get a better understanding of its Chinese consumers first, said Sluzewski. “While our company has interest in international markets over the long term, we have no current plans for an expanded presence in China,” said Sluzewski. The company had planned to begin online sales of a private-label brand in China in the spring, after buying a minority stake last year in Chinese retail company VIPStore Co.
