Major expansion at Tianjin

Tianjin, China's fourth largest port, is to spend Yn12bn on port infrastructure over the coming decade, said Xinhua. As part of the plan, the city will build a 30 sq km island in the north of the port area and complete a deepwater channel accommodating 150,000- dwt ships by 2005. It will also build an oil wharf with an annual handling capacity of up to 300,000 tons and it will expand containerhandling capacity to 1.7m teu.
