Mandarin Oriental had no hotels in China before this year. Hong Kong and almost everywhere else in Asia (and the world), but China remained virgin territory until January, when the Mandarin Oriental Sanya opened on Hainan Island.
The design of the tropical complex was inspired by the minority culture of Hainan Island.
As well as the requisite private pool villas Mandarin boasts some 11 restaurants and 5 bars, not excepting a cigar lounge and wine cellar.
Hotel Chatter reports that since they’re in soft-opening mode, a 3-for-2 night special is in effect for stays until September, meaning that the ocean view rooms (from $292) are relatively within reach for such a top-level property.
