Marco Polo signs new hotel in Jinjiang

Marco PoloMarco Polo Hotels has signed a management contract for a new property in Jinjiang in the Fujian Province of China.

The Marco Polo Jinjiang, scheduled to open in 2010, will have 290 rooms and suites and will be the Marco Polo’s 5th hotel in China.
It will be a MICE hotel in that conference and banquet facilities will include the Marco Polo Ballroom, the Junior Ballroom and seven function rooms. A recreation area will offer guests an outdoor swimming pool, health spa and gymnasium.
Asia Travel Tips reported Liao Jin Dui of Jinjiang Hongfu Hotel Company, the owning company,as saying, “We are particularly pleased to have appointed Marco Polo Hotels as our hotel management company."

Note that the Jinjiang Hongfu Hotel Company is, in turn, owned by the Hongkong company The Wharf (Holdings) Ltd.

Did Marco Polo himself ever get to Jinjiang?

Almost certainly not, although the argument that he never even got to China is totally spurious and should be ignored.
