Market access widens for Taiwan farm goods

Beijing has committed to giving Taiwan agricultural producers greater access to the mainland market, including offers to invest in its farm sector, state media reported. Taiwan farmers have seen declining sales due to limited demand on the island. The mainland will lift tariffs on a dozen produce items shipped to Beijing and Shanghai, according to a source with a Taiwanese trade group. Taiwan's farm exports to the mainland totaled US$116m in 2004.
