Matsushita moving to China

Japan's Matsushita Electric Industrial announced plans to shift 40% of its Southeast Asian production to China over the next three years.

The maker of Panasonic products will move all of its less-sophisticated manufacturing to low-cost China.

The company aims to boost its sales in China to Yen 1 trillion (US$9.4 billion) by 2007, from an estimated Yen 300 billion (US$2.8 billion) this year, while raising sales in Southeast Asia by 27% to Yen 660 billion (US$6.2 billion).
