Mattel recalls more Chinese-made toys

Toy manufacturer Mattel is to make a second big recall of Chinese-made toys in two weeks, the Wall Street Journal reported. Having recalled 1.5 million products in early August after lead-heavy paint was discovered, the company said on Tuesday that it wanted to gather up 436,000 die-cast cars, also as a result of lead paint fears. In addition, a November 2006 recall of toys containing magnets that can be swallowed by children has been expanded to cover 18.2 million magnetic toys worldwide, include Batman action figures. If more than one magnet is swallowed they can attract each other, causing intestinal perforation, infection or potentially fatal blockages. The latest recall comes just days after the owner of Lida Toy, the Guangdong company involved in the first recall, committed suicide in his factory.
