Japan's Mazda Motor will contract out production of its newly released Mazda 6 midsize passenger car to First Auto Works Group, China's largest carmaker, Nikkei said. Mazda will ship bodies and engines to be assembled in FAW's plant in Changchun, Jilin province, and hopes to sell 15,000 units of the car in China in 2003.
FAW has been making Mazda's Premacy minivan since May 2001 and began to make the Familia passenger car in July this year.
