McDonald's, which operates wholly-owned and JV-owned restaurants in China, said it received government approval to begin franchising, allowing it to speed up restaurant openings in more remote cities. Approval also means it will now be able to collect rent, royalties and trademark fees from private operators � and improve margins, according to a company official. Some 70% of McDonald's 31,000 outlets worldwide are franchises.
