McDonald's plans to double China outlets

McDonald’s Corporation (MCD.NYSE) will almost double its presence in China to 2,000 outlets by 2013, the Wall Street Journal reported. Company officials made the announcement after launching China’s first McDonald’s Hamburger University training center. McDonald’s opened almost 150 outlets in 2009, and the company has plans to open 150 to 175 outlets in 2010. "China is our fastest-growing [market] from the income standpoint and from the revenue standpoint," said Tim Fenton, McDonald’s president of Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Following the opening of its first outlet in Shenzhen in 1990, McDonald’s has grown to employ 60,000 people and control 1,100 outlets in China. Although McDonald’s has only 6 franchised outlets in China, the company also plans to increase its franchisees in the coming years.
