China Mengniu dairy, which recently came under investigation for additives in its milk, said government checks had determined its products to be safe for consumption, Reuters reported. Last week, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision said Mengniu was under investigation for adding osteoblast milk protein to its milk. "After considering the source, production and application quantity of OMP….the experts confirmed that consumption of Milk Deluxe (OMP) currently available in the market is not hazardous to health," Mengniu said in a statement. Six children died and more than 300,000 fell ill last year after consuming milk contaminated with the chemical additive melamine.
