German Chancellor Angela Merkel will target reciprocal trade issues in bilateral discussions during a visit to China next week, Reuters reports, amid increasing complaints from German industry regarding barriers to the Chinese market.
Merkel said in a weekly public videocast that both countries will push for increased multilateralism despite a growing appetite for protectionist economic policies around the world. Rule of law and market access will be other topics on the agenda.
President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang will host the chancellor for two days, during which she will also visit the southern technology hub of Shenzhen.
