Three Chinese companies featured among the world's top 17 steelmakers by operating characteristics such as profitability and employee skills, according to analysis by World Steel Dynamics, a US consultancy. Baosteel was in second position according to verall operating performance, behind Posco of South Korea. Anshan Steel was in ninth position and Shaogang was in 12th.
China is expected to consume about a quarter of the world's steel production of 900m tonnes this year.
