Microsoft to make Baidu default search engine for Edge browser in China

Microsoft has signed a deal with Baidu to make the search engine the default option and home page for users of the American tech giant’s Edge browser, The Wall Street Journal reported. In exchange, Baidu will greet users who search for “Windows 10” with a banner advertisement that will take them to a special Windows 10 download site. The deal is meant to help Microsoft extract more revenue from Windows in a country where piracy of the operating system is rampant, and further fortifies Baidu’s position as the country’s top search engine–including over Microsoft’s own Bing service, frequented by less than 2% of mainland Internet users.
